Alicia, a second generation Florida native, grew up on the water fishing with her dad and is an avid scuba diver. Her history with yoga began as a way supplement endurance running. SUP yoga, a fusion of her 2 passions, yoga and water sports, was the natural next step. In 2012, she became an ACE Certified Paddle Yoga instructor after training with her gurus at Lazy Dog Paddle Yoga in Key West. She founded Sweetwater SUP Yoga to help others take their yoga practice to a new dimension of balance and strength while connecting with nature. When not running, practicing yoga or paddling, she spends her time horseback riding, camping, kayaking, and fishing with her hubby and local guide, Captain Adam of Reel Therapy Guide Services.
Kaya Avery, RYT 200 Hatha Yoga, ACE Paddle Yoga
Kaya Avery was born in Tampa and spent her childhood on the water. She was first introduced to the idea of SUP as a teenager in California, and years later after completing her yoga teacher training she saw the two combined and knew this was her new passion. Kaya completed her 200 hour training at Two Suns Rising in 2009 and also earned her paddle yoga certification with Lazy Dog in Key West. She has experience in water rescue (not that you’ll need it, but it’s good to know!) both through lifeguard training and from the program through Lazy Dog. Kaya’s practice is fun for all levels, whether you’re a newbie to yoga or SUP (or both). In addition to paddle board yoga, Kaya also teaches aerial yoga, kids yoga, vinyasa yoga, hot yoga and meditation.
